[Live Report] Antique Café - ‘Welcome to Antique Café Tokyo Branch!’
With a grand fanfare, the members started their greetings as the crowd cheered them onto the stage. Antique Café ’opens’, with welcoming their 10 year anniversary since forming, they are finally having their tour [10th Anniversary year LIVE CAFE “48” Todofuken TOUR ‘NYAPPY GO AROUND KIMINOMACHI’] that started at SHIBUYA-AX on April 21st.
As its name suggests, this national tour is an anniversary tour where they will be circuiting to ‘your town’ where the fans await all over Japan. We will not go into the detail about the event for those fans who are looking forward to attending one of their venues, but the set list will include their old songs along with an announcement of their new songs. With places where they will look back at their 10 years of their career, and also places where they will predict Antique Café’s future, this so called menu prepared for the fans will be an interesting one.
‘Thank you for ‘coming to the store’ today! I’m sure usually everyone is stressed from work or school and full of anxiety, but please leave all your worries here. We will suck out all your problems!’ (Miku)
They heated up the fans by playing a set list with various mixture of new and old songs such as the coupling song ‘Tohi Kairo’ for their single ‘Cosmo’ that was released back in November of 2004, and the title number ‘Amazing Blue’ from the EP that was released for the first time in two and a half years when resuming their activities. A message from a member made the fans even more excited. ‘I want to make this a supreme day. I hope everyone will go home with 100% enjoyment!’ (Miku). Bringing smiles to everyone’s faces is An Cafe’s (short for Antique Café) ‘date’ style which continued with more fun present for their fans.
‘We will be releasing CDs three months in a row! The theme will be ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku Returns’. I’m sure not a lot of people know this, but in the past Antique Café released CDs three moths in row with the theme ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku’ with four of us including Bokun. But we would like to make these CDs with the 5 of us by arranging and attempting to do ‘anti-aging’ lol’ (Miku).
The single that was released in July of 2005, ‘Tekesuta Kosen’ of ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku Dainanadan’ had a subtitle ‘Anti-aging ver.’ to which will be performed at this tour. They will be making this new ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku’ as a 5 member group, rather then when they were a 4 member group back when the guitarist Bou left the band after their Hibiya Open-Air Concert held on April 30th, 2007. The planned consecutive release in June, July, August will start off with a new style of ‘Tekesuta Kosen –Anti-Aging ver.-’ of ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku’. The completed song is vibrant and lively and exactly an ‘anti-aging’ piece with their decline-free weapon of ‘dance rock’ which is from the former ‘Harajyuku Sanbusaku’ produced by Antique Café making the fans of SHIBUYA-AX happy. With danceable and speedy rhythm, Koki, Kanon, Yuki, takuya and Miku performed energetically, showing what is the ‘present’ Antique Café.
One of the new high-light scenes during their concert, ‘Duck no Magical Adventure’ is where Miku hits the fan’s heads with pico pico hammer (of course gently lol). Moreover at this tour, they held an An Cafe style entertainment performance, ‘Nekketsu!! Zenkoku café dance Senshuken’. Koki, Kanon, Yuki and takuya all put their instruments down and jumped, ran around, and dance. The fans did the same, cramming the venue with storm of dances making the ‘Senshuken (Championship)’ not only about techniques but the size of your love for your hometown determined the winner, that received showing a scene of An Cafe’s playful mind.
After the excitement with this unique idea, takuya showed off his tapping technique with the song ‘AROMA’. When Miku screamed violently singing the song ‘Gangu’, the fans answered with head banging. ‘BondS~Kizuna~’ was performed with unity as if the fighting spirits of all five became one. ‘MY HEART LEAPS FOR ‘C” was performed with energy lead by Miku’s powerful vocal, indicating the growth of An Cafe in the last 10 years.
‘With all our gears meshing and thanks to every person we encountered, we are here today. Within all that, there were setbacks and this and that. But now we feel all that past was good for us because we are so full of happiness now. If we were not happy, we probably couldn’t think like this. As a return to your kindness, we hope to tour 47 prefectures and make everyone feel that today was a good one. Please continue to support us in the future.’ (Miku).They can dance, they are fun, and they are hot. The five members of Antique Café expressed themselves just as they are on stage, capturing the fans’ hearts with their warm atmosphere. The live venue limited edition single, ‘Kiminomachi’ expressed their gratitude towards everything that supports them and the scene where they performed with straightforward sincerity was impressive. With big applause and smiles filling up the concert hall at the end of the live, the fans got to take a commemorative photo with the members on the stage. The members held a board with the letter ‘ア(Ａ)’ on it. What word will be completed at this tour by connecting each letter held at each venue of the tour……!?With lots of playful minds and exploding passion, where will the Antique Café wind up on the 10th anniversary year!? With great expectations, let’s keep a close watch on them!
